Is it worth it?
By the time someone goes looking for this, the dog has usually already cost them something. A neighbour has mentioned the barking. The walk has become a daily argument. A skirting board is gone. You have watched the free videos and nothing stuck, and there is a quiet part of you that wonders if you were the wrong person to get a dog. Brain Training for Dogs comes at it from a different angle than the usual stop-that fix. Farricelli's argument is that a bored dog invents its own job, so the course is built around short mental stimulation games, with obedience work layered on top. That premise isn't controversial. Enrichment and mental work really do take the edge off nuisance behaviour in a lot of dogs, and the methods are reward based rather than dominance based, which is where mainstream training has landed. What the page oversells is speed and reach. Quickly eliminating any behaviour problem in any dog is the seller's promise, not a proven result. Genuine reactivity, separation anxiety or anything involving teeth needs a trainer who can watch your dog in the room. This is self-study, so no one corrects your timing. If your dog is broadly fine but pushy, bored and under-stimulated, it's a sensible cheap place to start. Ten minutes a day, most days, is what actually makes it work.
Pros
- Reward based, no choke chains or dominance stuff
- Games are short, so they fit a real evening
- Trainer has an actual professional certification, which is not the norm here
- Far cheaper than even one in-person session
Cons
- Sold as fixing any problem in any dog, which self-study can't do
- No feedback loop, so bad timing or a misread dog goes uncorrected
- Sales page never states the price, the format or how much material there is
