Is it worth it?
You're either staring at a kennel quote for three weeks and feeling guilty about it, or you're the other person, someone with time and a clean record who'd happily live in a stranger's house in Portugal for a month instead of paying for hotels. Housecarers sits between those two. It's a directory, one of the older ones, and the job it does is introductions. Nothing more than that. You pay for a membership, build a profile, then either list your home or browse assignments by country. The country list is genuinely long, from the United States and Australia down to Vanuatu and Zimbabwe, though a long list is not the same as a busy list. The big markets (UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain) have real volume. Somewhere like Latvia might show you nothing for months. What the page doesn't tell you on the way in is the thing that matters most: how many live listings exist in the place you actually care about, right now. You can't really see that until you've joined. The sales page is all reach and no density. Also worth knowing, the matching is on you. Nobody vets the homeowner beyond what they typed, nobody guarantees a sitter shows up, and there's no insurance included. It's a noticeboard with a payment gate. For the right person that's plenty, and it costs less than a fortnight of boarding fees.

- Check the membership price and the term it covers, the page shows neither until you start joining
- Ask what happens if there are no listings near you, and whether a refund is possible in that case
