Is it worth it?

You've probably had the thought after a storm took the power out for two days, or standing in front of an empty shop shelf. If things got properly difficult for a month, could you feed your family and patch up a cut without a shop or a pharmacy? That unease is what this book is aimed at. The Lost Ways is Claude Davis's collection of the everyday skills people relied on before all that existed: keeping food edible without a fridge, making water safe, shelter, trapping, old household remedies. Read as history with practical intent, it's genuinely good company. It won't make you self-sufficient on its own, because these are things you have to actually practise, and most people read once and shelve it. Two honest notes. The sales page is a video, so you learn almost nothing about what's inside before you pay, which is a lot to take on faith. And the one health claim written on the page, a wild lettuce extract used as a painkiller, is offered as family tradition with no evidence behind it, as the seller's own disclaimer says. Interesting, not a replacement for anything your doctor gave you. Buy it if you like knowing how things were done and want somewhere to start practising. Skip it if you want modern step by step prepping checklists.

Pros

  • Covers skills that still work without any kit
  • Plain old methods, not gear you have to buy
  • Reads well even if you never use it
  • One payment gets a reference you keep

Cons

  • Video only sales page never lists the contents
  • Listed as recurring billing, and the page says nothing about that
  • Remedies are folk tradition, not tested medicine
  • Knowledge only, you have to practise it yourself

What you get

A book by Claude Davis gathering the survival and self-sufficiency skills people used before refrigeration, supermarkets and pharmacies: food preservation, water, shelter, trapping and old home remedies. Three bonus gifts come as digital files only. The page links a shipping policy, so a printed copy may be offered as well, but the contents are never listed in writing anywhere on the page.

Before you buy

  • Read the checkout screen for any recurring or rebill charge and know how to cancel it
  • Check whether you're getting a digital copy or a printed one, and whether shipping is extra
  • Open the refund policy link before paying, the page never states the window

Who it suits

Anyone who wants practical old skills to read and practise, not a gear list
