The Magic of Making Up review
A step by step plan for what to do and say in the weeks after a breakup.

Is it worth it?
It's usually late at night when people go looking for something like this. You've sent the message you regret, you've checked whether they're online, and you're trying to work out if there's any move left that isn't humiliating. The sales page knows exactly who's reading. It spends a long time describing your pain back to you before it offers anything, which is worth bracing for. Underneath the storytelling, the advice is sensible. The main idea is that most people make things worse straight after a breakup by chasing, over-explaining and apologising on a loop, and that backing off, getting yourself together and making contact deliberately works better than pleading. That isn't a secret system. It's fairly standard breakup advice. But having it set out as ordered steps, with actual wording, genuinely helps when you can't think straight. Be clear on the limits. Nothing here controls another person's decision, and the page's line that almost every breakup can be salvaged, even the worst cases, is the seller's claim offered without any evidence. Some relationships ended for good reasons. Where it earns its money is as a pause button. It hands you a plan for the next few weeks that isn't texting them at midnight. If it gets you through the worst fortnight with your dignity intact, that's worth the money even if they don't come back.
Pros
- Cheap next to a few counselling sessions
- Concrete wording, not just 'be confident'
- Available immediately when you need it at 2am
- The core advice (back off, stop chasing) is sound
Cons
- Billed as a recurring subscription, which the sales page does not make obvious
- Long, melodramatic sales page with stories before any substance
- Promises success in almost any situation, with nothing to back that up
- No way to know the length or format before paying
What you get
A digital programme you download and read straight away, not a book posted to you. The core is a stage by stage plan for the weeks after a split: when to stay quiet, when to make contact, and suggested wording for awkward conversations. The page never says how long it is, whether audio is included, or what the ongoing charge after the first payment actually covers.
Before you buy
- Check the recurring charge: what it costs, how often, and how to cancel
- Check the refund window and note the date you bought it
- Ask yourself honestly whether you want this person back, or just want the pain to stop
Who it suits
Someone freshly broken up, still in the chasing phase, who needs a plan for the next month more than a guarantee. Not for anyone leaving an abusive relationship, or where the other person has clearly and repeatedly asked for space.
