Profolan review
Tablets for men with thinning hair, built around a plant extract blend rather than a drug

Is it worth it?
Profolan is sold to men who have noticed the hairline moving and want to try something before accepting it. The page says it tackles the cause rather than the symptoms, and describes itself as coming from the United States, though the company behind it operates out of Poland and sells several hair products under different names. What you are actually buying is a vitamin and mineral tablet with three plant extracts. Zinc, selenium, copper and the B vitamins are genuinely involved in how hair grows, and a shortfall in them can show up in your hair. That is a real mechanism, and it is the honest case for a product like this. What it does not establish is that topping those up will regrow hair that is receding for the usual reason, which is hormonal and hereditary and does not respond to nutrition. The page leans on before and after photographs and a satisfaction figure. No trial of the finished formula is offered, and the ingredient doses are the kind you would also get from an ordinary supermarket multivitamin. If your hair loss is male pattern baldness, the treatments with actual evidence behind them are minoxidil and finasteride, and a pharmacist can talk you through both in ten minutes.
Pros
- The full ingredient list and the doses are published, not hidden behind a proprietary blend
- The nutrients involved do have a genuine role in hair growth
- Tablets rather than anything applied to the scalp, so nothing to work into a routine
- Sold with a money back period, which limits what you risk trying it
Cons
- No trial data for the finished product, only photographs and testimonials
- Claiming to address the cause of hair loss is a promise, not a demonstrated fact
- Doses are close to what a standard multivitamin already gives you
- Described as coming from the United States, while the seller is a Polish company
- Will not do anything for male pattern baldness on its own
Profolan
Tablets for men with thinning hair, built around a plant extract blend rather than a drug
What you get
Bottles of a tablet supplement taken twice a day. The formula is built on what the seller calls Grow3: horsetail extract, nettle and l-cysteine, alongside B vitamins, zinc, copper and selenium. It is a food supplement, not a medicine, and nothing is applied to the scalp.
Before you buy
- Work out why your hair is thinning first, because pattern baldness, stress shedding and a thyroid problem need completely different answers
- Ask a pharmacist about minoxidil and finasteride before spending on a supplement, since those are the ones with evidence
- Check you are not already taking a multivitamin with the same zinc and selenium, as doubling up on selenium is not harmless
- Hair cycles are slow, so nothing visible happens for three months either way
Who it suits
Men who want to rule out a nutritional shortfall and are content with a supplement rather than a treatment, having already had the cause of the thinning looked at
