Is it worth it?

You've got a brokerage account and you're running it yourself, and most days that feels fine until it doesn't. You read something bullish, you read something bearish, and there's nobody to ask whether the thing you're about to do is daft. That's the gap this sits in. The B.I.O. Forum is a paid discussion board run by Bill Spetrino, who writes the Dividend Machine newsletter. You get into a members-only forum where people talk stock picks, options and commodity strategies, and Spetrino says he's in there daily answering questions about specific names. It is not a picks service. Nobody emails you a trade. You have to turn up and ask. The page leans hard on credentials, including a claim of 19 winning positions out of 19, which is his own figure with nothing attached to check it. Read that as advertising. The references to Newsmax and Moneynews also date the copy by years, so it's fair to ask what the forum's activity actually looks like now before you commit. Worth it if you already invest, hold your own opinions, and want somewhere sane to test them against people who aren't strangers on a free message board. Not worth it if you want someone to tell you what to buy, or if you know you'd lurk and never post, because a forum you don't post in is just expensive reading.

Pros

  • Direct access to the person running it, rather than a one way newsletter
  • Ongoing discussion, so you can follow a thesis over time
  • Cheap next to managed advice or a pricey annual subscription
  • You set the agenda by asking about positions you actually hold

Cons

  • The page never states the real billing amount or whether it's monthly or yearly, only a per day figure
  • Performance claims come from the seller with nothing to verify them
  • Value depends entirely on how busy the forum is now, which you can't see before paying
  • No refund terms, cancellation process or member numbers mentioned anywhere

What you get

Membership to a private online forum, with Bill Spetrino posting in it. Threads cover individual stocks, dividend strategy, options and commodities, and you can start your own thread about a position you hold. He says he takes part daily. It's a board, not live sessions, so you read and post on your own time. Billing recurs, quoted as under $1.25 a day.

Before you buy

  • Ask what the actual charge is, how often it recurs, and how you cancel
  • Ask how many posts a week the forum currently gets, and whether Spetrino is still posting daily
  • Be honest about whether you'll post, since the whole value is in asking questions

Who it suits

Self directed investors who already have opinions and want a smaller, more serious room to argue them out in, not beginners looking for a buy list
